MultiPlan reimburses underpaid physicians in Connecticut
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted March 1, 2010
Following advocacy efforts by the American Medical Association and the Connecticut State Medical Society, MultiPlan has repaid physicians who were mistakenly paid at discounted rates between 2006 and 2008.
Matthew Katz, CSMS executive vice president, said MultiPlan conceded it had paid some Connecticut physicians at discounted rates even though they were not part of MultiPlan's network. The physicians were members of defunct physician-hospital organizations that had been in MultiPlan's network.
MultiPlan is a preferred provider organization that sells its networks to larger or geographically limited plans, often acting as a "secondary network" allowing those plans to access discounted reimbursement rates.
