AMA's Physician Consortium marks decade of measure development
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted April 5, 2010
The principle that doctors should be the ones to devise the measures used to gauge physician quality is at the heart of the Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement, an American Medical Association-convened initiative that marked its 10th anniversary in March (link).
"From the first measure set we created for diabetes ... the PCPI has challenged itself to develop the gold standard for scientific, evidence-based measures that can be broadly implemented to improve health care," said Bernard Rosof, MD, consortium chair.
The initiative has developed 270 measures in 43 clinical areas and has members from 170 organizations, including specialty and state medical societies. The National Quality Forum has endorsed many of the consortium's measures.
