IBM announces global health care initiative
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted July 26, 2010
IBM is investing $100 million over the next three years to improve health care quality and cut health care costs globally.
Part of IBM's plans involve hiring physicians, nurses, scientists, engineers and economists to develop new technologies and business processes for health care professionals and insurance providers. More than 100 of IBM's current staff of researchers worldwide are collaborating on the project.
The focus of the project is threefold: develop evidence-based treatment methodologies; improve service quality through simplifying the health care delivery process; and develop new incentives to shift the health care payment model to one that rewards for patient outcomes.
The company also plans to develop collaborative relationships with businesses, governments and universities.
